From the 1930’s to 1950’s, Kep was considered the Asian Riviera and was the playground of the rich and famous. The king and his family (or girlfriends) would frequent his local palace, as would Khmer movie stars, musicians and wealth foreigners, with many having holiday houses. Kep fell into disrepair during the Khmer Rouge regime of the 70’s and 80’s. The beautifully designed colonial holiday houses today sit abandoned as empty shells. The hidden treasures of Kep are best discovered with the help of a local. You’ll be taken to some of the most wonderful abandoned old houses, spot some graffiti by reknowned Brazillian artist (name) and marvel at beautiful fences around vacant plots.
